Have You Wondered What That Creepy Raccoon Statue is In Animal Crossing?

animal crossing tanukiWell, it's not a raccoon at all. It is a creature that is known as a tanuki in Japan and it is closer to being a dog than a raccoon. Nook himself is a tanuki hence the name Nook.

Well, the story behind them gets a lot weirder. They mettle in human affairs, can change form, and can fly by using their extremely large balls.  Yes you read that right.

Tanuki are very normal in Japan and you'll see them decorating homes and store fronts everywhere just like gnomes and pink flamingos in the USA. I just wonder how they explain the flying balls part to children.

There is a cartoon, too, surprisingly released by Disney, and the balls were left in. At least the copy I have has it. I don't know if it's been cut out, but I hope not because that is apart of Japanese culture and should not be removed.

Hopfully this little bit of info helps you understand the game a bit more. Tanukis do sometimes like to cheat humans that is why we always seem to be in dept to Nook. Three rooms that were the same size and he charged more for each one. What was up with that!
